Former minister Rüşdü Saraçoğlu passed away.
Saraçoğlu was suffering from heart disease.
The funeral of the former minister will be held tomorrow at noon at Teşvikiye Mosque, followed by burial in the family plot at Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.
Rüşdü Saracoğlu, the grandson of former Prime Minister Şükrü Saracoğlu, served as the President of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey between 1987 and 1993, and later served as a member of parliament for the Motherland Party (ANAP) and as a Minister of State during the 53rd Government.
CENTRAL BANK PUBLISHED A MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCES
In the condolence message shared on the TCMB’s social media account, it was stated that “We have learned with sorrow the passing of Mr. Dr. Rüşdü Saracoğlu, who served as the Governor of the Central Bank between 1987-1993. We wish God’s mercy upon him and offer our condolences to his family and all his loved ones.”
WHO IS RÜŞDÜ SARACOGLU?
Rüşdü Saracoğlu was born in Ankara in 1948. He is an economist and politician. He served as the president of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey between 1987 and 1993.
After graduating from Ankara Atatürk High School, he graduated from METU Department of Economics and Statistics. He received his PhD from the University of Minnesota Department of Economics in 1980. He worked as a lecturer at Minnesota and Boston College.
He worked as an economist at the IMF, served as the President of the Central Bank, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macro Consultancy, the 20th Term İzmir Deputy and a Minister of State.
He is married and has a child.
He is the grandson of Şükrü Saracoğlu, one of the former presidents of Fenerbahçe Sports Club and whose stadium is named after him, and the son of Hüseyin Aydın Saracoğlu, former President of the 9th Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals.
He served as President of Koç Holding Banking and Insurance Group and retired on December 31, 2007.
After Koç Holding, he served as the Chairman of the Board of Allianz Sigorta A.Ş. and Allianz Hayat ve Emeklilik A.Ş., and left his career in 2013.
He died on May 24, 2025.
